Meet Clyde Stewart, Inventor of ShowerFloss
Some things are invented out of need. ShowerFloss is one of them.
In 1985, retired GM engineer Clyde Stewart, made a routine visit to his dentist and found out he had serious gum disease. He was told if he didn't start flossing he would lose his teeth. He tried string floss, but with tight teeth and bridgework, found it difficult to handle. He then bought a WaterPik. He loved the feel of the water, but hated the mess at the sink. He knew there had to be a better way, and thought about how easy it would be if you could water floss in the shower. The temperature of the water is perfect, and it doesn't matter where the water goes!
Being an engineer, he made a prototype in an afternoon with parts he bought from ACE Hardware. He attached a pik, and started his routine of water flossing in the shower. Within 6 months he had reversed all of his periodontal issues and knew he was on to something. He had it on the market within a year.
Clyde was a Marine who served in WWII and the Korean war. He retired after 30 years of working with GM at the age of 53. He passed away April 11, 2022 at the age of 93 and his family continues to carry on his ShowerFloss vision and legacy.
